Rethinking Protein: The Truth About Diet Trends, Toxic Food Systems, and Restoring Gut Health
Protein is a cornerstone of nutrition, but are we truly choosing the healthiest options? In the United States, conventionally raised meat and dairy—packed with hormones and antibiotics—have led to rising rates of gut health issues, food sensitivities, and chronic...
The modern wellness industry taught women to survive the damage instead of questioning the system causing it.
We were handed caffeine for exhaustion.
Wine for nervous system overload.
Supplements for depletion.
Protein bars made of chemicals.
“Self-care” sold in plastic packaging while women are running on cortisol and fumes.
And before anyone gets defensive, yes, there is a place for medicine. There is a place for support. There is a place for supplementation.
But we should still be asking harder questions.
Why are so many women exhausted before 10 AM?
Why is anxiety normalized?
Why are hormone issues exploding?
Why does the food industry profit from ultra-processed convenience while the pharmaceutical industry profits from the fallout?
A dysregulated society is an incredibly profitable society.
The answer was never supposed to be “cope harder.”
It was supposed to be:
What is creating the dysfunction in the first place?
Food.
Stress.
Environmental overload.
Nervous system exhaustion.
Disconnection from rhythm, rest, sunlight, movement, and real nourishment.
That conversation makes people uncomfortable.
Good. It should.

Many of us are rewarded for pushing through.
For staying productive.
For being the reliable one.
For overriding exhaustion and calling it ambition.
Until one day, the things that used to motivate us start feeling heavy instead.
Not because we have failed or feel ungrateful.
Because eventually the body asks us a deeper question:
"What if success without peace is no longer enough?"
That question can feel terrifying at first.
But sometimes it`s the beginning of coming home to yourself.

Some women were never taught to rest.
They were taught to perform, tolerate, and keep going.
The body remembers.

Recognizing patterns that you.have and why they are there is the first step to teach safety to your nervous system. A game changer.
Lavender doesn’t block pain signals.
It influences how they’re interpreted.
That’s the difference between chasing relief and actually supporting the nervous system.

👉 “Have you ever noticed pain feels worse when you’re stressed?”
Your mind racing when you finally slow down isn’t a failure.
For many women, rest removes the distractions that kept the nervous system feeling in control. When that happens, the body brings unfinished signals to the surface. Thoughts speed up. Tension appears. Discomfort follows.
This doesn’t mean you’re bad at resting.
It means your system hasn’t felt safe slowing down yet.
I wrote more about this because so many women blame themselves for a response that actually makes sense. Go through the tree and read "When Doing More Makes Your Body Hurt"

This December, I`m choosing slower breaths, softer days, and the quiet moments that nourish my whole being. When we slow down, our nervous system feels it. Our hearts feel it. Here`s to savoring what matters most.

If your mind moves faster than you can keep up with or you feel overstimulated before the day even begins. You`re not alone.
Skullcap is one of my favorite herbs for moments when the mind feels busy, and the body feels wound up.
Its soothing nature helps create a little more space inside. So you can breathe and settle.
I reach for my Meadow Ease blend on days when everything feels loud. If you`d like to learn more about it, the details live on my main page.
